British Telecom Research Studentship in
SPECIFYING FEATURES OF SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
The School of Computer Science is expected to be able to offer a
BT-funded Research studentship to work on the specification of
"features" for complex software systems, in particular software for
telecommunication services. Features are small additions or
modifications introduced to enhance software products.
The Research Student will work at the School of Computer Science in
Birmingham under the supervision of Dr. Mark Ryan, and will have the
benefit of occasional interaction with the Signaling Protocols group at
BT Research Labs, Martlesham Heath.
The research will involve the following areas of computer science:
logic; temporal logic; defaults; model checking; theorem proving. Some
software tool development will also be included. Applicants should be
EU citizens and possess a good honours degree (equivalent to a first
or upper second class degree in a UK university) in Mathematics or
Computer Science, or a closely related subject. Because the research
is bound to a specific project, the studentship value is higher than
the EPSRC standard. It is approximately 6600 pounds per year, for
three years.
Additional information about the studentship can be found at
the URL

Additional information about the School of Computer Science and the
University of Birmingham is accessible from: http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk
This includes current research, courses, pictures of the campus,
individual pages of members of staff. Application forms can be
obtained from these WWW pages or from the address below.
Informal enquiries about the studentship are most welcome and should
be directed to Mark Ryan, 0121 414 7361, email M.D.Ryan@cs.bham.ac.uk.
The closing date for applications is 15 September 1995. Late
applications will be considered if the selection process has not
advanced to far. Applications should be clearly marked "BT
studentship" and be sent to
