Hidden Dialogue in Excel

I would like to create a dialogue box in Excel 3.0 which prompts for a
username and password. I cannot find a way to prevent the password
echoing on the screen.

The minimum I need is for the keystrokes to not appear, ideally I would
like an alternative character to appear as keys are pressed such as
asterisks.

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem. I know of no way to prevent key strokes
from echoing in a dialog box. What I did, was to open a new
spreadsheet (no gridlines, or scroll bar) and prevent the user
from closing it (Protect Window). I sized this spreadsheet to
dialog box size, added some "OK"/"Cancel" buttons, and included
some cell borders to highlight where the password should be typed.
You CAN format cell text, so I selected a font size of 1 and made
the text color white (just in case). No text appeared in the bordered cell
when the password was typed. When user clicks OK, just compare the
contents of the cell to whatever the password is supposed to be.

I suggest creating and password protecting (so the user can't modify
or open) the "dialog spreadsheet" in advance, then opening it with
macro code. If the sheet doesn't exist, or if an error is generated when
you attempt to open it with a password, then it has been tampered with
and the macro should abort.

Good luck.
