G'day world, I'm looking for a good but cheap (free would be nice :) spreadsheet to run under Windows 95. I suppose even an old DOS one could be run in a DOS box in Win95, but some nice Win95 features would be useful to have available. It would need to handle the old Lotus .WK1 file format at a minimum level of compatibility - but one or two Excel formats as well would be very useful for our purposes. Does such an animal exist in the Windows world? Thanks for your time, Cheers, Ian S. P.S. As our News server is frequently full and is, therefore, quite unreliable, I would appreciate e-mail responses should you have any definite recommendations. -- Ian Staples MS-Mail: staplesi@dpi.qld.gov.au c/- P.O. I doubt any programmer has put Excel capability into a free product -- the Excel formats are Ugly with a capital Ug. WK1 is more probable, but I don't know of any that do that. Oleo will handle SYLK, though. I don't know if it's available on DOS. > P.S. Why not just buy Microsoft Works. It's about $50-$60, and you get a
WordProcessor, Spreadsheet, Database, etc. In fact, I don't understand why
many businesses don't buy Works instead of Office - Many will never use
Office to the extent that justifies it's cost.

I mean, isn't that why EVERYONE buys Office at all? to get at those files from other people? -- Russell_Schulz@locutus.ofB.ORG Shad 86c

It's one of life's little ironies that in many corporate environments you're not allowed to adopt a cheaper approach -- you can only do so "unofficially" which means spending *your* money for *their* benefit. Hence the need for the cheap*est* solution in many cases. :-) Cheers, Ian S. P.S. How compatible is the spreadsheet in Works with Lotus .WK1 files do you know? It would have to be able to import and export them. (We're really only talking data here, very limited formulae, if any. But I think we're stuck with the .WK1 format at one end, otherwise just using CSV files would be an option for transferring stuff to and fro.) -- Ian Staples MS-Mail: staplesi@dpi.qld.gov.au c/- P.O.
