The IEEE MSS&TC Data Management Specialist Workshop project
committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan 20th at Scripps
Institute in San Diego. We will meet in the Martin Johnson House
(building T-29).  There will be no registration fee, however,
there will be a parking fee. Parking permits are required and can
be bought at the Management Site (building T-29) for $8.00 (all
day) and $4.00 (half day). I will fax a map to folks that confirm
there attendance.

Ann Kerr is our host at Scripps. Her office is located in building
T-31, phone number is 619-534-2103, and email is kerr@ucsd.edu.

The meeting will be held from 9am to 4pm.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

The IEEE Mass Storage Systems and Technology Technical Committee
is sponsoring a series of specialist workshops on data management.

The purpose of the specialist workshop series is to

  1. Discuss the need for standards (std I/Fs) between data
     management systems and storage systems.

  2. Discuss the relationship between

     Data Access,
     Data Format,
     Data Organization, and
     Storage Systems

  3. Make a recommendation to the IEEE about the need for new
     standards (or about the lack of need).

  Areas of particular interest include:

  1. Data management systems and storage systems requirement for
     parallel processing

  2. Data Management issues associated with analysis and
     interpretation of large interdisciplinary, complex data bases
