I have a few pieces of code regarding the Internet Chess Server that I would
like to post to an anonymous ftp archive. How do I do this? What is a good site
to put things on?

Thanks,
Rich

You don't "post to an anonymous ftp archive." You either post to a
USENET newsgroup which some sites automatically archive, and
therefore, your code ends up getting archived at those sites, or your
submit your code to the maintainer of an anonymous ftp site, and
he/she decides whether or not to put it into the anonymous ftp
archives at that site.

The former method is easier, probably, and will in many cases end up
getting your code archived at a larger number of sites.

If your code is a finished product which you feel is worthy of
wide-spread distribution, then you might decide to post it to one of
the comp.sources.* newsgroups. It's hard to say which one would be
most appropriate, since you haven't really said anything about your
code. The best way to find out is to read the submission guidelines
that the moderator of each newsgroup maintains and posts regularly
(they should be available in the archives of each source newsgroup, if
they are no longer available in the news spool of your site).

Alternatively, you might just decide to post to alt.sources, which
will get your code archived in a number of different locations.
However, alt.sources is a bit messier and the archives of it are a bit
more difficult to use.

I would recommend you read the guidelines postings for the various
source newsgroups, as well as this posting, which talks more about
archives:

Subject: How to find sources (READ THIS BEFORE POSTING)
Newsgroups: comp.sources.wanted,alt.sources.wanted,news.answers

Available in the indicated USENET newsgroup(s), or via anonymous ftp from
pit-manager.mit.edu (18.172.1.27) in the file:

/pub/usenet/news.answers/finding-sources

Also available from mail-server@pit-manager.mit.edu by sending a mail message
containing:

send usenet/news.answers/finding-sources

Send a message containing "help" to get general information about the
mail server.
