Yours are good questions.  The file lists are sufficient, however,
since it is easy to download the indexing program from SIMTEL20
wherever you are located.  You only need to download it once, while
the file indexes are updated on a regular basis.  That is a crucial
difference. 

To be honest, one of the reasons (but not the only one) why I want
to have SIMTEL20 indexes readily available at Garbo is that I need
to consult them occasionally myself.

Of course it would be technically possible, but I will not do it for
two reasons.  1) The work involved.  2) At Garbo I prefer the
present format.  The SIMTEL20 file list format is Simtel's, the
Garbo format is Garbo's.  No, the way to go about this is what
Michael Sanders is kindly doing for us all right now.  That is
writing and updating a program for Garbo browsing.  In general
terms, I prefer the solution of changing the program to handle a
database rather than changing the data base.
