Telemate 4.00 terminal emulation

I have tried the latest release of the Telemate and found that while
it is supposed to have enhanced vt102 emulation, there is an annoying bug
introduced: I like to use bright white on blue terminal screen, now,
apparently after some ANSI sequence from the host, it switches to
a regular white (more like gray) on blue.
Most notably it comes up when I am using Emacs, the "guilty"
sequence is somewhere in the status line.
Any comments or workarounds?
