Stan Barber has just released mini-inews (nntpclnt) version 1.6.

I have just modified the distribution to work with 'nn' (which, as far
as I can recall, is distributed with a modified version of 1.5.9). The
modification adds a few other additional capabilities to mini-inews,
basically a "tracking" Message-ID header number and alleviates the need
for MINI_INEWS_HEADERS when configuring nn.

It's available via anon-ftp on jagubox.gsfc.nasa.gov.
