Hi,

I am announcing the release of my editor which, for lack of a better name,
I call JED. Although originally developed for an IBMPC, it runs on UNIX and
VMS as well. More specifically, I use it on:

VMS, SunOS (compiled with gcc), Ultrix, IRIX, IBMPC clones (80x86)

I do not claim it to be an ``emacs-like'' editor but it was strongly
influenced by emacs.

Features:

  1. Extensible through the S-Lang programming language
  2. All keys may be redefined.
  3. Multiple windows / buffers
  4. A builtin C-mode and text (wrap) mode
  6. Modes written in S-Lang: Fortran and DCL (for VMS .com files)
  7. Mail ``modes'' for VMS and UNIX
  8. On VMS/unix, it supports 132 column terminals
  9. Rectangle support (in addition to standard cut/paste operations)
  10. Autosave and backup files and much more...

It is available via anonymous FTP from amy.tch.harvard.edu in the pub/jed
directory in three forms:

   1. jed.zip ;; complete source code + jed.exe for IBMPC systems
   2. jed.tar.Z ;; complete source
   3. jed.*of_16 ;; 16 part VMS share format

Please feel free to email me at: davis@amy.tch.harvard.edu with any
questions, comments, or bug reports.
