Archive-name: auto/rec.music.cd/Classical-Music-Information-Archive Reply-To: lampson@pulse.com Followup-To: rec.music.classical The purpose of this posting is to announce the availability of the following information in the classical music archive (early refers generally to music of the Renaissance & Baroque periods; late refers to music of the Classical, Romantic & Modern periods): ASCII files: classical/Guide Guide to Buying Classical Recordings classical/Repertor Basic Repertoire List classical/Keyboard.brq Recommended CD Recordings of Early Keyboard Music classical/Chamber.brq Recommended CD Recordings of Early Chamber Music classical/Orchstrl.brq Recommended CD Recordings of Early Orchestral Music classical/Keyboard.lat Recommended CD Recordings of Late Keyboard Music classical/Chamber.lat Recommended CD Recordings of Late Chamber Music classical/Concerto.lat Recommended CD Recordings of Late Concertos classical/Orchstrl.lat Recommended CD Recordings of Late Orchestral Music PostScript format files: classical/Guide.ps Guide to Buying Classical Recordings classical/Timeline.ps Timeline of Composers classical/Repertor.ps Basic Repertoire List classical/Keyboard.bps Recommended CD Recordings of Early Keyboard Music classical/Chamber.bps Recommended CD Recordings of Early Chamber Music classical/Orchstrl.bps Recommended CD Recordings of Early Orchestral Music classical/Keyboard.lps Recommended CD Recordings of Late Keyboard Music classical/Chamber.lps Recommended CD Recordings of Late Chamber Music classical/Concerto.lps Recommended CD Recordings of Late Concertos classical/Orchstrl.lps Recommended CD Recordings of Late Orchestral Music The Recommended CD lists contain references to over 1850 CDs, and are cross-referenced back to the Basic Repertoire List. These files recently underwent an extensive revision expanding the files by some 40%. The CD Buying guide contains information on manufacturers & distributors, mail order sources, and publications. The Basic Repertoire List contains information as to music considered to be part of the basic repertoire, and is organized by musical period and composer. The Timeline file (PostScript only) graphically depicts the life spans of 80+ composers in a timeline format. Due to the large size of these files (1MB total for ASCII and 1.7MB total for PostScript) the recommended and preferred method of accessing these files is via anonymous FTP from cs.uwp.edu (131.210.1.4). If you can not perform FTP from your site, please contact me, and I will mail the files to you. Please specify which files, in which format, you would like to be sent. I will collect requests and do a mass mailing in the very near future. If you have any questions, please let me know. Dave lampson@pulse.com [PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS]
