Standard ML of New Jersey
Version 0.82 for the i386/i486 running Linux, October 1992
[This is alpha release 0.1.]
__ HISTORY
This is a port of Standard ML of New Jersey (SML/NJ) to Linux. It
is based on the work of Mark Leone (mleone@cs.cmu.edu) who did
the port for i386/i486 machines. The current binary was compiled
using Linux 0.98.1.
__ WHERE TO GET
The alpha version for Linux is available by ftp from
ftp.dcs.glasgow.ac.uk
Login as "anonymous". Look at the directory "pub/linux". You have to
get just the file "smlnj-0.82-linux.tar.Z". This file contains the
following files:
README
README.Linux
releaseNotes.tex
smlnj
__ KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES
1 In order to use floating point operations a math coprocessor is
needed (387).
We are trying to find out why the emulation code for 387 in Linux
is not enough. Maybe with Linux 0.98.2 (new floating point
emulator) it will work, but we have not tried it yet.
2 ML functions not implemented in Linux version: getdirent,
gethostid.
3 Overflow & Div exceptions are not properly raised, one gets a
core dump.
__ BUG REPORTS
Please report any bugs to:
