Archive-name: auto/comp.os.linux/New-ext-fs-programs A new version (alpha 5) of the ext fs programs (efsck and mkefs) is now available on ftp-masi.ibp.fr:pub/linux/extfs. I have also uploaded it to tsx-11.mit.edu and I hope that, soon, a directory pub/linux/ALPHA/extfs will contain it. efsck and mkefs have been changed to not use a file for bad blocks. Bad blocks are now contained in an inode which does not appear in the file tree so there is no more risk of deleting it or backing it up. Also, efsck supports two new options -t for testing the fs for bad blocks and -S for salvaging the free inodes/blocks lists even if they do not contain any error. Some minor bugs have been fixed and optimizations have been included in these two programs : they should use less memory when they run. Thanks a lot to Wayne Davison for his work on these two programs. As usual, remember that the ext fs and these programs are still in tests and may contain bugs. Use them with caution !!! -- Remy Card card@masi.ibp.fr
