This approach has the drawback that ``some responsible person'' has to
do the (tedious) work of watching one or more newsgroups and posting
the archive lists. A compromise might be to get people to start using
the format already used in comp.archives as part of their normal postings
in other newsgroups, with a cross-post to comp.archives. An automatic
filter mechanism could be used to extract the archive information and store
it in a database, similar to that used by some sites to maintain uucp maps.
