But you forgot to consider that it would be very easy to configure the
modem to answer after 5 or more rings for that "rare" occasion when you
need to take the system down, for example.  Then if LD callers still
insist to stick around, they can get the message from the modem.

I think the message-from-modem is a nice "utility".
