for those interested in good results,
we replaced a PM14400FXMT with an FXSAC
to correct an intermittent reset problem
under DOS Waffle v1.65 -- with the FXMT,
we had been forcing DTR low for a period
of time (approx. 3 sec) to force reset
but unsuccessfully since upgrading the
firmware to v2.30 -- note the problem
was proven to occur upon termination of
downlink (incoming call) originated by
Telebit T-2500 or World-Blazer modems

with the FXSAC, we are able to simplify
our Waffle init string, though apparently
we still cannot run without an init string 

the replacement modem was installed
Friday (95-08-25) and finally tailored
and tested successfully the following
Wednesday -- after a week, we just
thought we should let Y'all know:

the new modem is still working and has not
required a manual reset in eight days
