NOTE: Follow ups are to comp.bugs.4bsd.
Recently in comp.sys.sun.admin there was discussion about amd hanging
machines by leaving everything in the DW (device wait state) (1).
I, with help from the other systems staff here, have managed to find what is
causing the problem and come up with a *possible* fix.
I'd like to know if any one else has previously found and fixed this problem.
If no one has, I'll post a tentative patch(2) tomorrow (local time).

(1) Amd5.3beta, when given a configuration file that contains poorly
constructed maps and a certain sequence of mount operations, can
trash an internal data structure and as a consequence stop replying to
the kernel's requests. This in turn leaves processes in a Device Wait.
You have to be really unlucky to hit this bug :-(
(2) I think the bug is serious enough for me to post the patch, but I'd rather
not as chance has it someone else has fixed it already :-)
