- CALL FOR PAPERS -
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON OPEN DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING
(ICODP)
Achieving Open Distributed Systems -
Experiences with Distributed Environments
Brisbane, Australia
20 - 24 February, 1995
Advances in computer networking have allowed computer systems across the
world to be interconnected. Despite this, the heterogeneity in interaction
models prevents interworking between systems. Open Distributed Processing
(ODP) is an emerging technology which is attempting to solve the software
interaction problem by proposing a common framework for distributed
systems. ODP systems are those that support heterogeneous distributed
processing both within and between autonomous organisations.
Progress within the field of ODP advances at such a rate that regular
forums for information exchange are a necessity for anyone interested in
this area of enquiry. The opportunity for interaction between academia and
industry representatives is of particular importance to both the application
of ODP technology in industry and the future direction of ODP research.
In this regard, one of the aims of ICODP'95 is to bring together
representatives from both sectors to discuss the topic of "Achieving Open
Distributed Systems - Experiences with Distributed Environments".
The conference organisers encourage contributions which focus on the relevance
of ODP technology to achieve some specific application. These papers should
highlight the developer's motivations for using ODP technology and detail
experiences with the use of a distributed environment (e.g. ANSAware, DCE,
ONC+, CORBA, Windows NT).
In addition, a workshop on Quality of Service in Open Distributed Processing
will be held as part of ICODP'95. The workshop aims to extend existing
Quality of Service (QoS) research in specific areas (e.g. communication
protocols) to its application in ODP systems. The workshop organisers
encourage contributions on the integration of QoS in distributed
environments, exploring issues in modelling, specification, or implementation.
AREAS OF INTEREST:
In addition to papers addressing the Conference theme "Achieving Open
Distributed Systems - Experiences with Distributed Environments", papers
are sought in all areas pertinent to open distributed processing which
include, but are not limited to:
- - Distributed Applications (for Telecommunications, Government, etc)
- - Distributed Architectures
- - Trading and Type Management
- - Distributed Environments
- - Computer Supported Co-operative Work
- - Enterprise Issues
- - Resource Discovery
- - Modeling and Specification
- - Security
- - Transactions
- - Management
For the workshop on Quality of Service in Open Distributed Processing:
- - QoS description and specification
- - QoS negotiation and adaptation
- - QoS monitoring
- - QoS based interface binding
- - QoS in distributed environments
- - QoS in standardisation
- - QoS based management
- - QoS dependent configuration and re-configuration
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS:
Contributions are expected either as "papers" or as "position statements".
PAPERS
Papers will be refereed. They should not exceed 12 pages. The conference
proceedings will be published through IFIP by Chapman and Hall.
Papers should include an abstract and keywords. The conference language
is English. Please submit one copy only of your paper to the organisers.
POSITION STATEMENTS
The purpose of position statements is to provide a seed for debate and
discussion. The conference organisers encourage participants to present
suggestions for future directions and concerns about current developments.
Position Statements should not exceed 4 pages. Please submit one copy only
of your contribution to the organisers.
QoS WORKSHOP
Please indicate clearly if the submitted paper or position statement is
directed towards the workshop on Quality of Service in Open Distributed
Processing. This information is only for programme planning.
(All ICODP'95 contributions will be assessed on their individual merits;
relevance to the QoS workshop is not a consideration.)
SUBMISSION METHODS
All papers and position statements can be submitted via electronic
mail (PostScript only), facsimile (submission only for this method)
or postal mail. The preferred method for submission is electronic mail.
The correspondence addresses for all three methods are given below.
