I'm looking for a generic authorization server that runs over IP like
KeyServer works over Appletalk. The idea is that you embed an authorization
client in an application program so that when the application starts up it
requests a ticket to run the application from the authorization server. If
there is a free slot on the authorization server to run that application and
the client fits other arbitrary restrictions (such as being from the correct
subnet) then the ticket is granted. Every hour or x amount of time the
ticket expires and the client asks the server for a new ticket so it can
continue. It is not necessary for the authorization server to be the source
of the applications. Applications can be installed locally, but the
authorization comes from the server. I'm looking for such a program, with
client stubs (to be prepended to applications) for Macintosh, DOS, Windows,
OS/2, various Unixes, or any other arbitrary operating system.
Do you know of a program that would fit my description or come close?
Thanks,
Loren
