Mysql DB (unix) -> [export to] -> FileMaker DB (mac) : how ?

Hi and thanks for reading this post!

I have a big problem that must be solved before next friday. If you
could help me to solve it, I'd even be ready to pay you something
(but.. I'm just a Student for the moment :-).

Situation: I have a mysql table with about 400 entries x 100 fields,
and I'd like to import the data from this mysql database into
a Filemaker database (it is not the very last Filemaker version).

I tried to put the data in an tab separated text file, with
one line pro entry, but it doesn't work nicely (it's done using
a Perl script & DBI).

Problems:
- the (accentued letters ä etc...) are not converted correctely
- and the multiline textfields aren't multiline anymore (I have several
fields from type TEXT and GLOB in the mysql table).

Result: that's a real mess :(. I searched in the docs, in some mailing lists
archives and on the web, without finding anything that could help me.

If anybody had an idea, it would be _great_! :)

Thanks a lot in advance,

Olivier Mueller

You could try to access mysql via ODBC by using the SQL plugin for
FileMaker. Many ODBC drivers handle 'special' characters well. Be aware,
however, that not all character sets contain all characters. For example,
the 'unequal' character in the Mac character set will never appear under
Windows. Vice versa you'll never see a 'one-half' character on the Mac.

This is simple. Make your Perlscript substitute each line break in the
multiline textfields by a 0x0B character. Filemaker reads them
as line break within a field.
