I have over 150 seats using my product that is using MS Setup Wizard to
install Access 97 Runtime.  Within my Access code, I have Access become an
automation client of MS Word 97.  What appears to be happening on some (~5%)
of these machines is that the "GetObject" for getting the handle on an open
Word session works fine, but if Access has to open a new session with
"CreateObject" a new Word session does not start and no errors are
generated.  What I do know is : I goto task manager and "winword" is not
running in the background, Excel automation works fine, reinstalling Word
fixes the problem on at least one of these machines.  Any clues as to what
might be happening?  Please e-mail any responses directly to me
