We have a client in Portugal who is running a dataload that uses BCP. All of their Portuguese characters are being written to the database as ANSI characters. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen and what we could do to prevent it. Please post your replies to the NG for the benefit of all to see Kind regards Jeff Tulley MATRIX Publishing Systems Nottingham England jeff@matrix-pubs.co.uk

Have you got the "automatic ansi to oem conversion" and "use international settings" checked? You might want to look into this... -- Richard Waymire, MCT, MCSE+Internet, MCSD, MVP (SQLServer) Senior Principal Instructor/Consultant, ARIS Corp. Jeff, Does the character set of SQL Server match the character set of the Portugese NT? It sounds like one of the two may be ANSI.
