I am running MS-SQL Server 6.5 under NT 4.0 I was wondering if there is some way to turn on case sensitivity without reinstalling the server software. The only reference to the issue of case sensitivity implies that it is not possible, but I find this hard to believe, and would like confirmation. Thanks Brent -- -- Brent Eubanks brent@ugcs.caltech.edu

Wrong. Rebuilding the master database with a new sort order is sufficient. Please note that you lose all your databases, logins etc. when you rebuild the master database. You can't even restore backup of old databases if you change the sort order. You can change the file name of the master database before rebuilding it. Then you can change back to the old master database just by restoring the old name file name of the master database. The master database is rebuild by the setup utility which is also used for changing the file name of the master database. Karsten Nyblad karsten@tdr.dk Tele Danmark R&D

If you have the ability, you can move the data from one server to another. Basically, I'd move the original databases to another server temporarily, then upgrade your existing server, then use transfer manager to copy the data from the temporary server to the new server (with the correct sort order.)
