How to install Oracle JDBC driver in Unix?

Java 1.4
Red Hat Linux 7.1
Windows XP
Oracle 9i
Borland JBuilder 7 SE

Hello all:

My goal is to have a Java program _without_ any additional
software (such as OCI or Oracle client) connecting to an
Oracle database server.

All I should need on the clients (Windows XP and Linux) is
Java and the Oracle JDBC driver.

I downloaded the Oracle JDBC driver and managed to install it
(with _very_ little help from Borland, thank you very much)
on JBuilder 7 SE, so I am fine with the XP PCs.

However, I can't figure out how to install the Oracle JDBC
driver on Linux. I played a little with a variable called
CLASSPATH, but still the driver doesn't seem to be working.

Can anyone give some pointers on this?

Thanks,

-Ramon F Herrera

Put the classes12.zip in the $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext dir and rename
it classes12.jar, give read grants to everyone (r--r--r--).
That's it. You don't have to fiddle anymore with the classpath,
since everything in the $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext is added automatically
to the classpath.

Thanks for your answer, Davide. My guess was $JAVA_HOME/lib but
now I see that jre/lib/ext makes much more sense.

Anyway, I'd like to add that under Java 1.4 the Oracle JDBC Driver
archive is now called ojdbc14_g.jar.

Grazie,

Is it distributed by Sun or by Oracle ? I was still using Oracle's
drivers ...
