Structure of Foxbase .FPT file??

Hello:

I have a large Foxbase .DBF file & accompanying .FPT file that I need to
convert to a dBASE III(+) .DBF database with .DBT memo file, so that it
can be used by a C application that can only handle dBASE-compatible
files. I do not, unfortunately, have access to FoxPro itself.

I have tried various means to convert the database, including running it
through Norton's filefix, and then renaming the .FPT file to a .DBT; and
also by changing the first byte of the .DBF file to an '83' hex as
recommended by one reader. I have also tried using the "APPEND FROM"
command in dBASE as another reader suggested, however dBASE doesn't
recognize "TYPE FOX", "TYPE FOXPRO", or "TYPE FOXPLUS" as a valid file
type.

Although I am now able to browse through the records with no problem
(due to changing the first byte in the file as above), I can't access a
majority of the memo text. Some records due work, but others come up
blank. Yet these same records, when viewed in the original Foxpro
application, do indeed have memo text.

I was just wondering what the differences are between the dBASE .DBT
file and the FoxPro .FPT file. I already know the structure of a .DBT
file, perhaps if I had the structure of a .FPT I could write a quick
conversion utility.

Any information, or better yet, pointers to a utility on the net that
can do the full conversion for me would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps
the author of DBFU, a small utility that displays structures of
databases - and handles Foxpro formats - could be of assistance (but I
don't know how to reach him).

Thanks in advance.
