Where to buy? FOXBASE or FoxPro for SCO or Interactive Unix
#21

I have been looking for Foxbase or Foxpro for a customer who wants to
transfer their current DOS/Foxbase systems to Unix environment.

I didn't find any software shops carrying Foxbase/Foxpro for Unix in
my local area, so I am looking where to buy from?

Or if Foxbase/Foxpro is not available, is there any compatible product
which could be used with the old FOXBASE/DOS databases?

I should be able to demonstrate this system to this customer in one
week.

Thanks for help.

I believe SCO sells FoxBase+ for Unix. FoxPro Unix is currently in beta
testing and will most likely not be released by next week.

Foxbase+ is licensed directly from SCO (Not Fox Software).
We bought our original copy from MicroAge (Sunnyvale). Its a dBase3
clone, but is missing some minor features. You should be able to
move about 98% of the code directly from dBase3 (providing its currently
a multi-user application, if not, have fun -- I did)

FoxPro for SCO should be released soon (We've been hearing that for a
while now), and rumor has it that its currently in beta testing.
As far as performance, we've been pretty satisfied. There is a
version of dBase4 for SCO, but I haven't heard anybody raving about it.
We're waiting for FoxPro (Which will be marketed by Microsoft - Not SCO),
but we're struggling along with the limitations of a 6 year old product.

There's also a version of clipper out there I believe, but don't know
what that is like.

Good luck!

Unix/Foxbase+ was made and marketed by SCO, but they no longer sell or
support it.

Microsoft has JUST shipped the Unix/Foxpro 2.6 BETA to developers (like me!)
but I can tell you that the commercial product is not gonna ship this year.
just ain't no way.

If I were you I would look at Recital.

Not so.

Perhaps you are thinking of SCO "Pro", the 123 clone that was discontinued?

FYI, there's a product availability matrix posted regularly to b.s.announce.

Tim

FoxBase is available to run on SCO Unix, and is published by the Santa
Cruz Operation. Most any dealer of SCO could get it for you.

FoxPro is currently in Beta, and not yet released. It too is only to be
supported on SCO Unix and Xenix.

Our Product, FlagShip will also do what you are asking for on about 50
different Unix platforms, Please write to wgs@gcs.com for information.
