FDDI between 2 cisco routers with 1 pair of fiber

I will soon be trying to connect 2 cisco routers via FDDI. This is our first
dabbling in FDDI, and the circumstances are less than ideal. I suspect that my
questions have more to do with FDDI than with cisco, but I wanted to run this
by the cisco gurus too.

One twist is that the fiber is single-mode, while almost all of the other fiber
on campus is multi. I ordered the correct appliques for the ciscos, and we can
probably deal with terminating the fiber. Are there any particular things to
watch for when dealing with single-mode fiber?

The bigger twist is that we only have 2 strands of fiber to play with, so I'm
hoping to construct a degenerate ring of one segment. I'll connect the A port
of one router to the B port of the other router. Will both routers reliably
and consistently wrap the ring, thus creating a degenerate but functional
point-to-point ring? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what do with the other 2
ports. Can I just leave them disconnected, or should I loop them back somehow?

Any insights from those with FDDI experience would be appreciated.
