I am planning on doing a compilation list of LAN servers.

I would appreciate E-mails that might shed some light on the following
subjects:

1) What are the most common machines used as LAN servers?

2) What affects most the choice of machines, Software or Hardware
implementations?

3) Can a non-server machine become a server? How?

4) Is there a reference listing of what machines are compatible with what
LANs?

Any and all help and/or referals would be greatly appreciated
