My guess is that multi-mode will be obsolete in a couple of years. Its
capacity peaks out around 200 Mbps. Single-mode goes well into the gigabyte
range. Single-mode is also cheaper by the foot. Up to now it has been more
expensive to connectorize and to drive, but that will change as the market
gets bigger -- it's merely a problem of volume. We are putting in a 50-50
mix of multi-mode and single-mode everywhere we install now.
