Hello netters, Once again we're here seeking advice on a matter we have been figthing with for months. We have a network with around 150 machines on it. It is built with starlan 10 HW (i.e., starlan 10 hubs and RJ-45 type 4 pair wire) Our HUBS are configured in a star formation to reduce network "rise time" problems. Unfortunately, sometimes people attach machines from their offices with wrong AUI settings, causing a lot of grief to us and the rest of the group. We can tell that the cause is probably an AUI with wrong settings, but we have no way of telling which office we should go to check the AUI. We usually end up going from office to office, one by one, and checking them. We are anxious to find out if there are any super-sniffers out there that can not only show collisions, but identify their source as such-and-such connection on such-and-such hub. Such a device would save us a lot of grief, although my understanding of IEEE802.3 says that it is probably impossible to build such a sniffer. does anybody know anything on this matter? We sure would appreciate the input... Thanks in advance, Cetin Seren reply-to: cs@karin.att.com
