I read a review in PC Magazine that said NCR's WaveLan can go upto 5 miles with roof mounted antenna. Are there any other products that can do the same or better and don't require a license to operate them? I need to go just slight over 5 miles and I definietly want to bypass Ma. Thanks. Tom Benham

Your best bet might be the ARLAN 620 bridges from Telesystems.
They need no FCC license and are supposed to be able to transmit
over a line of sight path of up to 6 miles. They yield a speed of
something like 200-700Kbps FDX (though their brochures misleadingly
describe them as delivering 400Kbps-1.4Mbps HDX.)
We have a pair of them working over a 1.5 mile path with no problems
at all. The whole shebang (2 bridges, antenna cables, antennae) should
run you around ten grand.
