I had my first experience with @Home today, but (dang it) not at MY home. :( For some wacky reason on this side of the bay Marin became @Home enabled before MY burg did (less then 15 mintues from @Home corp HQ). And of course, one of the owners of my company happens to LIVE in Marin and dummy me used his address to alert him to when @Home became available. What I found a bit amazing is the first PC at this home to get connected (direct connection to start with) was a notebook. I was suprised @Home carried PC Card NICs vs just having ISA/PCI NICs. AND the @Home tech actually installed the PC Card correctly w/out thrashing the rest of the notebook (which I would have had to fix). so, less then 24hrs after he is connected he wants to "share" the modem with his wife and later his pre-teen kidlets. Wonderful I think. I tell him, no problemo. Wire the house, buy a NIC for the 2nd PC, buy a hub, request a 2nd IP from @Home and then good ole me gets a field trip to Marin to hook and configure the entire deal. I even got it to work only after a brief problem (see other note posted here). All that and I even got fed lunch. :) Not sure if I was on company time, tho. :( Only strange thing I noticed (bug maybe?) was when I power reset the cable modem by unplugging it (wanted to make sure it worked AFTER I had everything going) the cable modem light would continue to blink vs being steady. I had to press the reset button in back of the modem to get the cable link to go solid. This occurred twice. :( Might mean every time the power goes out (seems to happen in Marin more often then most other burgs) somebody will need to hit the reset button each time. Ick. Hopefully it was just a glitch that tagged me twice during the day.... Otherwise when the access is dead (and yes he'll call ME vs calling @Home for tech support) first thing I'll ask is if the power went out.... swell. Well, at least I know... Now if TCI will get busy and get to MY location..... goodbye ISDN and hello cable access... Shale
