He doesn't need to install any software.  Just connect the modem to the NIC
and use DHCP address assignment.  You will probably need to power cycle the
cable modem first, which causes it to forget the MAC address of the card
that it was connected to previously.  (This may not even be the case anymore,
but was with the original Motorola Cybersurfr modem that I had ~4 years ago)
