Few ISPs actually *REQUIRE* you to install their software. @Home
doesn't, for instance; I use them without using their software. I'd be
shocked if Cox required you to install their software, although it's
possible their kit will include software to configure necessary
settings but no instructions for doing it manually. If so, you might
have to find some way around that problem or install the software. I
have no inside knowledge, though; I'm guessing their software package
won't actually be required based on common industry practices (AOL
notwithstanding).
