Recently switched back to cable after a stretch on dialup... I'm in a
different area now though, and with a different ISP. Everything seemed
ok until I signed on to gnutella. It seems that the "high" number of
connections (I like to keep 15+ gnutella host connections open) is
driving the SurfBoard 4100 cable modem into a confused state of
disfunction. Connectivity remains, but at a seriously poor quality
level. Pings take upwards of 5 seconds to come back, and total
throughput for *all* connections, gnutella or otherwise, falls to
<10KB/s. I've done a lot of testing and I am quite confident this is a
modem problem, I can post details if anyone thinks it might help... but
basically my question is: Is the SurfBoard 4100 a pile of junk? Or is
it just mine that is defective? I've been hesitant to contact Comcast
about it because I'm using an unsupported operating system; should I
call tech support?
Thanks,
Jp Calderone
