Just to clarify - The gnutella connections have at most 2 or 3 KB/s
going across each of them - just queries from the network about what
files are in my database. I tend to think it isn't a problem with my
bandwidth being used because the problem starts to occur very sharply
when more than a certain number of connections are open. Pings will
jump from 80ms with 10 hosts, to 3000 ms with 15. Not exactly a linear
trend...

Some more info:

When the problem is occuring and I ping the modem itself
(192.168.100.1), response time is fine, <2 ms. When I ping my gateway,
the problem is evident, large packet loss and several second ping times.
If I turn off gnutella, wait a moment, and try the same thing, all
pings are <10 ms.
