Hi, I live in Austin, TX where we're supposed to be getting TimeWarner's cable modem service, Road Runner, later this year (at least, that's what I heard earlier this year). I have a few questions for users who are fortunate enough to already have cable modem service: 1. Can users get static IP addresses instead of dynamic, and if so how much does it cost? For security purposes my company requires employees accessing the corporate network from home have static IP addresses if they want to get past our firewall (specifically, I'm wanting remote control of my NT workstation from home using TimbuktuPro). 2. The RoadRunner FAQ at http://www.pathfinder.com/rdrun/ mentions that businesses can use Road Runner as a wide-area network. Does anyone have more information about this? How usable is it for accessing file systems remotely? 3. Is the cable "modem" integrated with the television cable box, or is it separate? I hope it's separate since I currently only rent a cable box in the living room, not the computer room. 4. The FAQ says that users have to run a program to connect and get assigned an IP address. Can Win95 be configured to automatically do this whenever access is requested (ie, is it a "virtual" dedicated Internet connection)? 5. I currently have my two home computers networked (simple peer-to-peer to share files and printer) and use WinGate to let them both access the Internet at the same time. Will I have to buy any other hardware (eg, a hub?) to keep this capability? Any gotchas I should be aware of? I have a 3Com Etherlink III Bus-Master PCI Ethernet adapter on the machine that will connect to the cable modem. Btw, would something like NAT32 work better than WinGate?
