in Network Neighborhood (right click), on the Identification tab, the computer (or hostname/dnsname) name merely allows the DHCP server to recognize you dynamically when you have "Obtain IP address automatically" in TCP/IP properties (also ensure under Wins Configuration tab that the "Use DHCP Server for WINS Resolution" is checked) So put in your hostname and check those two properties. DNS should be disabled and Gateway should be removed if you previously had it setup statically. After reboot, you can run the command "winipcfg" from the RUN dialog and confirm the settings have taken effect for that adapter. Note that if you are not online (say the DHCP server is down), then you may wish to disable WINS RESOLUTION, and fill in those TCP/IP properties and try to connect statically. Good Luck!
