Ken Beveridge posted the following info that was sent to him from someone at @Home: > at this time, running a proxy server is against the > Acceptable Use Policy www.home.com/aup and you will have > your sevice terminated if you install a proxy server. Just so there is no confusion: By "proxy server", I assume people are talking about a gateway / router / firewall system that allows a set of computers (i.e., a mini-network in the subscriber's home) to have access to the Internet via a single cable modem connected to the proxy server. Right? I just took a look at http://www.home.com/aup/ and found no mention of "proxy servers", gateways, firewalls, NAT, etc. The policy does, to be sure, prohibit "servers", but my understanding of what it means is that @Home customers may not run any software that accepts "inbound" network connections initiated from the outside. This is, of course, not what a "proxy server" does at all -- despite the word "server" in the name. I was seriously planning to get AT&T @Home (I live on the San Francisco peninsula) -- but if I can't hook it up to the mini-network in our home via a firewall router, I no longer see the point in exploring the idea.
