Well, as in any high-speed connection, it fluctuates a lot. When I try to download to a large file from a Chicago server with ping less than 20, I get about 250 KB/s, which is excellent, more than I ever expected. Sometimes it even goes up to more tha 400 KB/s for a few seconds at a time, but rarely. But on average, I'd say I'm getting between 150 to 200 KB/s from a typical web download. Sometimes it's even less than 50. I haven't really tested upload speeds because I know they are slow and AT&T states that it's only 128 Kbps. About pings, I can tell you that a typical server in Chicago would ping at less than 20 ms. I can easily find multi-player game servers in the Midwest that ping at less than 35 ms. But typical web server pings are more than 60 ms. That's probably because of the inefficient routing. There are typically a lot of hops to cross. As for down times, I haven't had any yet, but the mail server frequently doesn't let you log in for some reason for hours at a time. This performance will probably change very soon as more customers sign up. BTW, how large would my node be? I mean, how many people or towns does it cover? ___ Alex R. pcalex@-yahoo.com Remove the - when replying by email. <adoh@my-deja.com> wrote in message news:8n809g$91b$1@nnrp1.deja.com... > > Q: Alex R: what are typical download, upload, ping speeds for Wheeling? > Anyone right by my neighborhood with empirical numbers for recent dates? > > Regards, > adoh
