Exactly! I mean after all if firewalls and proxies really worked then how come high end systems still get broken into??? If you have information that a hacker feels should be allowed for all expect your system to get hacked. if you piss off someone expect a cracker to come a knocking ;) ping flood's, etc while classified by the media and the government(heh heh government intelligence what an oxymoron) as hacking etc generally are not done by hackers.. Hackers HACK into a system to give themselves access usually on *nix style boxes as that is what most of their software runs on anyways. Then they use that access to get information and/or hack into tougher boxes... Take for instance the NASA hack back in 1995/1996. A group of hackers known as Virii gained access to TOP-SECRET servers by gaining access to a LOW SECURITY server that had permissions on the TOP-SECRET servers. They were found out due to a couple 13 year olds who decided to be "tough and cool" and fuck things up.. Those 13 year olds then ratted out almost all the other members that they had access to as a PLEA bargain.. Needless to say those 2 13 year olds are on a perm ban list by all Hackers and Crackers.. if they get seen and identified they are hacked and stuff.. ******BUT****** for the average internet user you would have nothing to worry about. just don't spout off in any newsgroups or chat rooms that you are a hacker and your system can not be hacked.. you should then be safe from most (99%) of the hackers out there. then the only ones you have to worry about are the wanna be's which are the ones that can be tracked down cause they do not know the finer art of stealth! Sorry for such a long post. I am on some medication that is kicking my ass something fierce right now.
