I'm having problems with my newsgroup speeds. I get great results from
my cable modem on the web and ftp sites. Is there some setting I can
change in my registy for newsgroups or is this likely on my provider's
end of the line?

I have this phenomonum too and I've been curious about why. I assumed it
was the overhead associated with the relatively small downloads from
newsgroups or the new server. If anyone knows please share the
knowledge.

There is no difference between downloading from ftp-servers or from
news-servers. The only difference i can imagine is the use of a
proxy-server, available by most ISP's. If the file you want to download
is loaded before, it exists on the proxy-server. This can increase your
downloadspeed from ftp. The news-server only can send its contents
directly to your computer. If this server is "slow", your downloads
will go slow too. If you know other news-servers with better
performance, you can try if this works faster.
