Don't know if this is the right groups to post to but I need information
(Comments, throughput stats , latency stats, configurability, managability) of
the Ascom Timeplex Integrated Access Node (IAN). What we have is a IBM SNA
network running over a TIMEPAC (QLLC) network consisting of largely dumb 3270
terms. We need to install aUNIX (cahr Based) Application that a number of
users can access while still accessing the IBM. Tha Application has too many
screen mapping functions for a product like Halkey (similar to ANet ie
3270/telnet gateway on IBM) as we have tested that. We ahve to work on a
shoestring budget and they only want 1 term/desk. So what i am proposing is
replacing these users 3270 terms with PC's and running TN3270/Telenet for both
sessions. Problems are how do we interface to an Ansync/SNA based network cost
effectively? Thats why I'm looking at IANs as can still interface our legacy
SNA/Async traffic as well as add small LANs (ie TN3270 as won't work over
PADS (correct???)) and don't have to upgrade whole network to routers but just
software update to Frame Relay (By the way has anyone heard of Timeplex's
"COR" strategy just seems like marketing hype for using routers over a FR
Network which all the main router vendors do anyway if you ask me?)
Any comments especially on interfacing scenarios would be very much
appreciated. Thanx in advance
