I have a couple of questions for you -- that will help me provide you
with a better answer.
1. When you say the line stays up all day. Do you mean
all day between 0800 and 1800 or outside that window too?
2. What version of router code are you running? Filtering
on Dial Demand Circuits was added in 10.00. In 11.00 we
added NODIAL and NORESET (doesn't reset inactivity)
filters.
3. What routing protocols are you using? RIP? OSPF?
I'm not familiar with VIP, but from what I understand it's pretty
chatty and it could be the vines traffic that's keeping your line up.
Before you go ahead and make that assumption you should verify that is
true.
If you don't have an analyzer, you may want to try the pcap utility.
It's a packet capture utility shipped with Optivity -- it's easy to
use and once you've found the offending packets ... that should help
you design the appropriate filter.
Also, for filtering and vines documentation go to
http://support.baynetworks.com/Library/
Under Routers ->
Router Software Documentation ->
Version 11.00 Configuration ->
Configuring Traffic Filters (and Configuring VINES Services)
