He was quoting me, and if you feel my commentary is "self-annointed", I
direct you to Mark Cuccia, and David Lewis, among others, who seem to
feel differently--at least based on their correspondence with me.

: My experience (and ITS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE) with BellAtlantic Cellular is that the caller ID packet sent from
: my cell phone when i make a call, is the ID packet sent to my stop by the last inbound call.

If this is _really_ what's happening, then your carrier's MTSO is
_horribly misprogrammed_. Not misconfigured (I shouldn't think), but
actually misprogrammed.

Which I shouldn't think would be possible.

: It's caused some interesting situations as i am dating several ppl right now <giggle> (yeah, they all know
: about each other) One of my gentleman friends will not answer the phone if he doesn't recognize the ID.. but
: once call the ID number because i often called him after i spoke to the other and he wondered why this number
: kept calling him. The funny thing is that caller recognized the name of the law firm when the phone was
: answered... and the two of them ended up meeting for happy hour that day. <shutter> Now i just get my
: secretary to call me prior to making a call to any of them.

It sounds to me like your cell company is sending trunk ID's instead of
the actual number of the cellphone, and then doing silly thing with the
incoming calls.

: BTW, is this ID a header packet? (I work with LAN/WAN token/ethernet stuff.. so i don't know much about
: telephones.. but i'm learning a bit by lurking around your group.)
: Thanks to all of you for sharing your wealth of information!!!

Except me?

The CallerId number sent to any phone is generated by the _switch your
phone is connected_ (except in special circumstances which I've already
gone over).

The number does _not_ come from the phone.

Oh, how apt.
