I live in the San Francisco Bay area of California. Pacific Bell offers a service named Anonymous Call Rejection, which is supposed to limit telemarketer annoyances. Can someone in California who has subscribed to this feature, tell me if it is effective or not? The problem with ACR is that many telemarketers don't turn up as anonymous calls; instead the Caller ID information is just unavailable. So they get through. With Privacy Manager, the requirement is more stringent; anybody who doesn't have valid Caller ID data is routed to a voice menu system before my phone even rings. Now that I have Privacy Manager, I certainly get fewer telemarketing calls. The drawback is that some normal people call from areas where Caller ID doesn't work and have to go through the menus to get to you. Overall, I'm pleased with Privacy Manager, and prefer it to ACR.
