TITLE = Towards a logic-based reconstruction of software configuration
management
NUMBER = 92-10
AUTHORS = Matthias Jarke, Manfred Jeusfeld, Andreas Miethsam, Michael Gocek
PAGES = 18
ABSTRACT = The efficient configuration and re-configuration of software systems
has been a major problem in software engineering. A large number of
solutions has been proposed with different features and
restrictions. In this paper, configuration management is presented
from a logic perspective. It is shown that much functionality can
be generated automatically when configurations are considered
as views on a deductive database and recent results on deductive
integrity checking, query optimization, and intensional updates
are applied
[Remark: two screendumps are omitted in the paper due to space
limitations]
TITLE = The Three Dimensions of Requirements Engineering
NUMBER = 92-24
AUTHORS = Klaus Pohl
PAGES = 16
ABSTRACT = Requirements engineering (RE) is perceived as an area of growing
importance. Due to the increasing effort spent for research in this
area many contributions to solve different problems within RE exist.
The purpose of this paper is to identify the main goals to be reached
during the requirements engineering process in order to develop a
framework for RE. This framework consists of the three dimensions:
o the specification dimension
o the representation dimension
o the agreement dimension
Looking at the RE research using this framework, the different
approaches can be classified and therefore their interrelationships
become much clearer. Additionally the framework offers a first step
towards a common understanding of RE.
TITLE = Feature-Oriented Classification and Reuse in IPSEN
NUMBER = 92-35
AUTHORS = J"urgen B"orstler
PAGES = 14
ABSTRACT= A successful approach to aid development with reuse is the usage of
libraries to store software documents. To support the organization
of such libraries specialized classification schemes evolved. Most
of the approaches developed so far are not generally applicable for
two reasons. They are based on more or less static classification
schemes and/or only consider functional properties of the stored
documents. To overcome both deficiencies we propose a new approach,
called feature#oriented classification.
To use such libraries successfully it is important to be able to
understand and to adapt the recovered documents. To support
development for reuse we propose the usage of a sophisticated design
language to provide developers with a single language in which they
can adequately document their design decisions.

TITLE = Theories Underlying Requirements Engineering: An Overview of NATURE
at Genesis
NUMBER = 92-36
AUTHORS = Matthias Jarke, Janis Bubenko, Colette Rolland, Alistair Sutcliffe,
Yannis Vassiliou
PAGES = 16
ABSTRACT = NATURE is a collaborative basic research project on theories
underlying requirements engineering funded by the ESPRIT III program
of the European Communities. Its goals are to develop
-a theory of knowledge representation that embraces subject, usage
and development worlds surrounding the system, including
'expressive freedoms'
-a theory of domain engineering that facilitates the identification,
acquisition and formalisation of domain knowledge as well as
similarity-based matching and classifying of software engineering
knowledge
-a process engineering theory that promotes context and decision-
based control of the development process.
These theories are integrated and evaluated in a prototype
environment constructed around an extended version of the conceptual
modeling language Telos.
