None whatsoever. The big problem with .shar files is that they're UNIX
shell scripts, and UNIX itself is the "utility" that unpacks them. A
.shar file may call uudecode, tar, cpio, uncompress, gzip, sed, awk,
make, the C compiler, or whatever else it wants to produce a finished
result. They also assume a little trust on the part of the user, a .shar
can wipe out your entire account, and may even exploit several known
security holes to try and destroy your system. It may be possible to
write a DOS utility that incorporates some .shar functionality (probably
the basic uudecode, uncompress, tar functions) but the more screwy .shar
files are still going to break it.

If I only had one or two, I'd just get the local UNIX guru to .shar for
me. .shar and .shar alike, I always say.
