AIMS, Inc. and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC are searching for enthusiastic candidates to work on software projects and algorithm development in an active research environment. *US citizenship required WEB INFO -- Information on AIMS may be found at http://aims-sys.com / Background information on this particular position may be found at http://aims-sys.com/employment.html and http://aims-sys.com/physicalbackground.html Information on NRL may be found at http://www.nrl.navy.mil/ POSITION DESCRIPTION *US citizenship required Title: Physical Scientist or Engineer Level: Junior Level (1-2yrs) or Mid-level (3-7yrs) General Position Description: Works on site at the ESM Branch (Code 5720) of the Tactical EW Division (Code 5700) of the Naval Research Laboratory, DC site. Incumbent will provide programming and analytic services for electronic warfare projects supported by Code 5720. Immediate Tasking: Incumbent will support an advanced research project in the area of artificial intelligence applied to electronic warfare. The supported AI research effort is distributed reasoning under uncertainty using the Dempster-Shafer (DS) Theory of Mathematical Evidence. In support of this effort it may be necessary to learn SmallTalk, an object-oriented language, to analyze existing software. If incumbent is not familiar with C/C++, it will be necessary to become familiar with it. An opportunity will be provided to learn these languages and any others needed in the performance of the immediate tasking. Incumbent will be supported by an external subject matter expert in DS theory. These efforts are designed to resolve emitter identification ambiguity which is wide spread in certain regions of the electromagnetic spectrum and a significant hindrance to accurate ESM system operation. THIS POSITION IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME THE RESIDENT EXPERT IN DS THEORY. SEVERAL UPCOMING PROJECTS ARE LIKELY TO USE THIS TECHNOLOGY. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum B.S. in a physical science or engineering discipline which requires extensive mathematical and physical theory knowledge. An interest in logic and advanced forms of machine reasoning, especially under uncertainty. Experience not essential, but a willingness to learn is. Programming knowledge is important, but not critical; languages such as Fortran, Visual Basic, and C/C++ are satisfactory. Elementary statistical knowledge is necessary. Current SECRET level clearance required. Desirable Qualifications: An advanced degree in physical science or engineering discipline which requires extensive mathematical and physical theory knowledge. Experience with logic and advanced forms of machine reasoning, especially under uncertainty. A history of experience (> 1 yr) of programming in the Windows, Windows 95/98, and/or Windows NT environments. Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis techniques. Experience with programming in C/C++; experience with SmallTalk. Education, experience, or interest in machine learning, intelligent agent creation, evolutionary computing, automated sensor analysis, data mining, artificial intelligence, fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic, expert systems, or neural networks (either artificial or biologically-inspired). *US citizenship required Please Reply to: Anthony.Teolis@aims-sys.com Information on AIMS may be found at http://aims-sys.com / (select "Employment" to see further details and more descriptions) Information on NRL may be found at http://www.nrl.navy.mil/
