Not all martial arts were created equal. Aikido, which I have been forced to stop practicing, uses a lot of wrist grasps and twisting/bending motions. It also involves a lot of rolling around, which if not done properly can damage the shoulder and neck (wrist injury is probably possible as well). Martial arts that involve punching heavy bags or [padded?] opponents may also cause wrist damage. In addition to loss of income due to inability to work as a computer programmer, one of the biggest problems due to my RSI has been the loss of the ability to participate in many physical activities (e.g., Aikido, biking, etc.) Swimming and hiking are some of the few physical activities which my body would allow (hiking damaged my knees, though). Finding fun activities that don't damage some part of one's anatomy can be a challenge. For instance, this winter I hope to learn scuba diving, which seems like an unlikely sport considering I live in cold New England. -- Ari Halberstadt ari@world.std.com #include <std/disclaimer.h> Ramsgate (n.)
