I have just whipped up a reasonable TrueType Russian font using fontographer, the "Courier New" in windows, and my old Russian typewriter. The characters are defined to match the CRS tables of Russian characters, which as far as I can tell match the KOI-8 standard used in the former Soviet Union. If this group has some preferred FTP site, I'd be happy to zap this font up, although I'm not sure if it would be 100% legal to send the English characters, since they're copyrighted. Alternately, I could create a "Russian-only" version with just my characters. Anyhow, now that I have a font editor, I plan to create an entire library of English-Russian fonts, based on the standard families and some of the nicer Russian familes (like "Izvestia," "25th Party Congress," and "CPSU.") Ant interest out there? Any place to archive this stuff? -- Gavin Helf UC Berkeley Political Science Berkeley-Stanford Program in Soviet Studies ghelf@violet.berkeley.edu
